The Department of Records and Research serves as the Official Headquarters for The A.M.E. Zion Church and has established an outstanding image for the church through its work within the religious community of the nation. The department also processes and maintains personnel files for those pastors who represent our church in the Chaplaincy of our Armed Forces, at VA Hospitals and Correctional Institutions. The General Secretary-Auditor also serves as a Liaison Officer between The A.M.E. Zion Church and other denominations.
The Mission of the Department of Records and Research of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion church is to promote our connection in system and records by recording the actions and deeds of the movement of Zion Methodism. Through its work the department becomes a system of remembering, providing not only information, but also serves as important sources for legal and historical purposes.
The General Secretary-Auditor records the proceedings of the General conference, and the Connectional Council. The Office is in charge of the Journal. The Books, papers, documents and other property belonging to the General Conference not otherwise provided for.
Ongoing plans has presented the department with change and challenging opportunities as we have sought to become more functional in source and resourceful in practice. Systems put in place during this quadrennium have increased our efficiency and enhanced the work of the department.
The preparation, editing, and issuing of official documents to the bishops, presiding elders and pastors for the performance of their duties at the annual conference, district and local church level consumes much of our time. Legal research (in regards to church property) and the compilation of annual conference statistical information is the most time consuming of all responsibilities.
