A native of Los Angeles, California, Gwendolyn Brumfield is a member of First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Los Angeles. She is no stranger to the WH&OMS Executive Board where she served as the General Treasurer from 1987 – 1995.

Mrs. Brumfield earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University and a Masters degree in Urban School Education from Pepperdine University. In 2013 she was honored by Livingstone College with the conferring of the Doctor of Humane Letters degree. She retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District after 35 years of secondary educational service as a high school principal, high school and middle school counselor, and high school teacher.

In 2008 Dr. Brumfield became the missionary supervisor for Bishop Mildred B. Hines, the first female to be elected bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Together they served the Western West Africa Episcopal District from 2008 to 2012. They are currently assigned to the Southwestern Delta Episcopal District.

Dr. Brumfield is associated with several organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA), National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), National Association of the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Church Women United (CWU), and World Federation of Methodist & Uniting Church Women (WFM&UCW).

Dr. Brumfield was widowed when her husband the Rev. Jerrod E. Brumfield passed away in 1997. She has one daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Johnson, Esq.
