Announcing The National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS - March 7-13, 2010

ImageRichmond, VA - March 7-13, 2010 will mark the first annual National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS (NWPHA). Every Church, Mosque, Synagogue, Temple and Home is invited to join in prayer, education, advocacy and service for the healing of AIDS in the United States and the World.

The purpose of The National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS is to bring national attention to the AIDS epidemic in the United States and the extraordinary role faith communities can and are playing in AIDS prevention, education, service and advocacy.

The National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS is the coming together of all people of faith to educate every American about HIV prevention facts; encourage and support HIV testing; advocate for the availability of compassionate care and treatment for all those living with the disease in every community in America; and love unconditionally all persons living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Beginning Sunday through Saturday, March 7-13, 2010, every worship center - church, synagogue, mosque and others - is requested to pause for a moment of prayer for the healing of HIV/AIDS during their worship service and provide AIDS information to their faith community. Congregations are asked to convene at least one additional AIDS awareness activity at some point during the week, if possible.

According to Pernessa Seele, CEO and Founder of The Balm In Gilead and Visionary for the National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, "As we march into the second decade of this extraordinary millennium, our country continues to be at war with a virus, which is relentless in attacking our families, communities and congregations here at home, as well as around the world. We must come together to educate Americans about HIV/AIDS in the United States." She adds, "I believe in the Power of Prayer! I believe in the Power of Education and Service! I believe in the Power of advocacy! Together they can heal our land."

According to the US Centers for Disease and Prevention, over one million Americans are living with HIV/AIDS, with over 56,000 new infections occurring per year.

Faith communities are asked to visit the campaign website at www.NWPHA.org and register their congregation. To obtain more information and technical support and resources on how your faith community can participate, visit www.NWPHA.org.
