Message from Yvonne Tracey, General President Of the Connectional Lay Council PDF Print
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace goodwill toward men."  Luke 2:14

I greet you my beloved of Zion in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ! It is my esteem honor and privilege as president of the Connectional Lay Council of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church to provide you with this message of encouragement and hope. I pray that you and your loved ones will take the time to reflect on where God has brought you from and greet each adversity with joy. Read Habakkuk Chapter 3: 17-19.

It is our responsibility to keep the challenge of the quadrennial theme presented by the Board of Bishops at the 48th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference and adopted by the Connectional Lay Council as its quadrennial theme for 2009-2013 connected with all that we do. Maximizing Our Mission By Managing Our Ministry Through: Education, Evangelism, Empowerment, and Expansion.

It is the earnest desire and fervent prayer of the Board of Bishops that we would be inspired to take seriously the challenges of our day and time. We must stand as one people, under one banner, committed in the service of our one Lord.

The Mission of the Laity: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJ Version) Laity, Go, implies an aggressive warfare. The Gospel army of laity must move upon the nations. Every lay person must understand that we have marching orders. Not only is every lay person commanded to go, but the purpose is stated. We are to make disciples, or pupils, and scholars of Christ; not great philosophers, but babes in Christ Jesus (1Co 3:1), who will enter the school of Christ and be taught afterwards. Now the question…Laity are you prepared to make disciples?

Bishop Darrell Starnes states: Effective Evangelism:
  • The first step in disciple making is bringing people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

  • The second step in disciple making is initiating converts into a Christ – centered Church.

  • The third step in disciple making is teaching to obey Christ’s commands.
There is an imperative to prepare laity to make disciples. Work in the church and effectual leadership is dependent on knowledge gained through systematic study. Therefore, Laity the new thrust is to enhance your Lay Academies with courses of study that can prepare you to fulfill the mission by making disciples. Closing Scripture: Jude 1:24-25
