Bishop George W.C. Walker Sr. and Board of Directors Launches Phase I of Conference & Retreat Center PDF Print
ImageCamp Dorothy Walls Conference and Retreat Center launched Phase I of its website October 22, 2009. The new and impressive website offers a visually stunning home page with information such as: news and events, an expansive photo gallery, contact information, a notable historical reference about the camp’s growth over the years, accommodations information, and detailed information about the many types of events that can be planned by contacting the camp’s event planning staff. Site visitors also can make a contribution securely online and become a partner by giving to the center’s TREE OF LIFE project.

The camp will be utilized extensively by its parent district, the Piedmont Episcopal District. The Piedmont District plan to utilize the conference and retreat center for a great deal of district events including annual conferences, local district events and other Episcopal district meetings. Also, other AME Zion Districts will have planned events at the conference and retreat center. Camp Dorothy Walls Conference and Retreat Center will also be open to the public for: nightly hotel stays, possible business retreats, weddings, other organizations’ events, and area visitors who want to stay at one of the most beautiful properties in the mountains of North Carolina.

Camp Dorothy Walls Conference and Retreat Center is located on the corner of Cragmont and North Fork Rd in the beautiful hills of Black Mountain, North Carolina. This priceless parcel was perceived as a place where Zionites could retreat from their busy schedules and restore their souls. This vision was invented by Bishop William Jacob Walls, in the Spring of 1957. The Camp was dedicated in September 1958, after which much work and other buildings followed. In July, 2004, the Piedmont Episcopal District was assigned to the Right Rev. George W.C. Walker Sr., as shepherd, who quickly envisioned the need for extensive renovations and decided "It's time to dream".

Phase I of the Camp Dorothy Walls Conference and Retreat Center is now complete. Phase II of this inspiring 59-acre property will be underway soon.

Sirius Networks, the web developer of the Camp Dorothy Walls Conference and Retreat Center website is busy developing phase II of the website project to be launched by end of year.

Bishop George W.C. Walker Sr. and the Board of Directors welcome your contributions in helping complete Phase II of Camp Dorothy Walls Conference and Retreat Center. To become a Partner and/or make a donation online, navigate to:
