Bishop Brown is a graduate of Knoxville College with B.S. degree. Bishop Brown also attended the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

His pastorates include; Oak Grove, Knoxville, Tennessee; Young’s Temple, Morristown, Tennessee; Jones Temple, Waynesville, NC; Walls Temple, Albany, NY; Columbus Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts; and Trinity A.M.E. Zion, Washington, DC. He was elected 91st bishop of the A.M.E. Zion Church at the 45th General Conference. While Bishop of the Western West Africa Episcopal District, Bishop Brown created the North Ghana and Togo Conferences.

Bishop Brown has served the AME Zion Church as a member of the Board of Overseas Mission. He supervised the rebuilding of the Beulah and Medford A.M.E. Zion Churches after Hurricane Hugo. He was a three-term member of the Boston University Board of Visitors
